This file contains last minute instructions and information for the installation 
of Dearborn Protocol Adapter 4 Plus and prior DPA versions.

; 1:  Minimum System Requirements
;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To operate the software, you will need the following MINIMUM hardware/software:

  1. IBM-compatible PC with Pentium 1GHz or higher processor

  2. VGA-compatible display monitor with minimum 800x600 resolution

  3. Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Vista

  4. 256 megabytes of RAM (512 preferred)

* Windows Vista x64 Notes

DG has tested under various 32-bit Windows Vista operating systems, however 
we have not yet tested the DPA drivers with Vista x64.  Testing on Vista x64 is 
slated for a future release.  If you are installing on Windows Vista x64 and 
experience any difficulties or anomalies, please contact our technical support 
department.

; 2: Installing the DPA from the DPA Installation CD
;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  1. Close all running applications.

  2. Insert the DPA Installation CD into your CD drive. 
     2a.  If "autorun" is enabled, the install process should start automatically 
          and you can skip to instruction 4.

  3. If "autorun" is diabled, run the "DPAInstall.exe" executable manually.
     3a.  Open "My Computer" and expand your CD-ROM directory path. Double click 
          on the file "DPAInstall.exe" in the root directory of the CD.

  4. Follow the installation program instructions.

  5.  When the setup is complete, it will create a program folder called:

       "Dearborn Group Products" -> "DPA 4 Plus" 

      which can be found under the "Start" -> "Programs" menu.  From this 
      submenu, you can launch the troubleshooting application called "AVT", or 
      you can read the complete DPA manual or QuickStart guides.

; 3: Updating the Firmware On Your DPA 4 Plus 
;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  1.  Run the DPA Flash Updater utility.

      1a.  Stop any OEM applications using the DPA.

      1b.  "Start" -> "Programs" -> "Dearborn Group Products" 
                   -> "DPA 4 Plus" -> "DPA Flash Updater"

      1b.  Should you receive a warning about missing CVI components follow 
           instructions in set 2 below. Then resume at the next step.

      1c.  Select the correct DPA, i.e. "USB DPA 4, 4 Plus, 5, VSI2534, Px-2"

      1d.  Select the correct firmware file (the latest version is already
           selected by default.  Firmware files are typically located in the 
           Utilities directory under the directory in which the DPA drivers
           were installed, normally:
           C:\Program Files\Dearborn Group Products\DPA 4 Plus\Utilities

           As of this writing, the current firmware file is "DPA60006.s19".

      1e.  Click on the "Download" button.

      1f.  Disconnect the power from the DPA, wait 5 seconds and the reconnect
           the power to the DPA.  

      1g.  You have now successfully updated the firmware.
  
  2.  Install the LabView CVI Drivers.  The drivers are found in the "Utilities\CVI" 
      directory on the install CD or are available for download from the Dearborn
        Group website http://www.dgtech.com/ under the support downloads page.

      2a.  Double click the file "CVI Runtime Engine.msi".

      2b.  The CVI installation will begin automatically, just follow the 
           instructions and reboot your computer as so instructed.

        2c.  Relaunch the DPA Flash updated as instructed in step 1a above.

; 4: Downloading and Installing from the Internet (www.dgtech.com)
;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have the installation CD this step is not required unless newer drivers
and/or software have been released since you first received your unit.

  1.  Download the Dearborn Protocol Adapter drivers from the internet. 
      These can be found at http://www.dgtech.com/ under the support downloads 
      page.

  2.  Click on the Web page link to download the files to your computer.
      This file is a compressed file that contains the complete software
      package. It is recommended that the file be saved to a temporary directory 
      on your computer (e.g. "C:\TEMP\").

  3.  Decompress the files.

  4.  Run the file called "DPAInstall.exe".

  5.  Follow the installation program instructions.

  6.  When the setup is complete, it will create a program folder called:

       "Dearborn Group Products" -> "DPA 4 Plus" 

      which can be found under the "Start" -> "Programs" menu.  From this 
      submenu, you can launch the troubleshooting application called 
      "Adapter Validation Tool", or you can read the complete DPA manual.

; 5: Uninstalling the DPA
;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  1.  Launch the "Add or Remove Programs" tool from the Control Panel.

  2.  Select "Dearborn Group DG121032 Drivers" and then click the "Change/Remove"
      button and follow the instructions.

; 6: Deviations/Clarifications From The RP1210A Standard
;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  1.  Multiple clients.  The DPA units supported in the DG121032 drivers can 
	only support one application at a time.

; 8: DPA Warranty Terms and Conditions
;--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8.1.    Warranty Information

The Dearborn Group DPA 4 Plus is warranted against defects in materials and 
workmanship for two (2) years following date of shipment.  Cables (both USB and 
vehicle) are warranted for 90 days.  

Dearborn Group will, at its option, repair or replace, at no cost to the 
customer, products which prove to be defective during the warranty period, 
provided the defect or failure is not due to misuse, abuse, or alteration of 
the product.  The customer is responsible for shipment of the defective product 
to DG. This warranty does not cover damage to any item that Dearborn Group 
determines has been damaged by the customer's abuse, misuse, negligence, 
improper assembly, modification, or operation of the product. 

A Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number must be issued to the customer 
from our Technical Support Department at (248) 488-2080 and must be included 
with the product being returned.

8.2.    Limitation Statements

8.2.1.  General Limitation and Risk Assignment

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Dearborn Group, Inc. and 
its suppliers provide support services on an "as-is" basis and disclaim all 
other warranties and conditions not specifically stated herein, whether express, 
implied or statutory, including, but not limited to, any warranties of 
merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, lack of viruses, accuracy 
or completeness of responses, results, lack of negligence or lack of workmanlike 
effort, and correspondence to description. The user assumes the entire risk 
arising out of the use or performance of the device, its operating system 
components, and any support services.

8.2.2.  Exclusion of Incidental, Consequential and Certain Other Damages

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Dearborn 
Group Inc. or its suppliers be liable for any special, incidental, indirect or 
consequential damages whatsoever, including but not limited to: damages for loss of 
profit, loss of confidential or other information; business interruption; personal 
injury; loss of privacy, failure to meet any duty (including good faith or of 
reasonable care); negligence; and any other pecuniary or other loss related to the 
use of or the inability to use the device, components or support services or the 
provision of or failure to provide support services or otherwise in connection with 
any provision, even if Dearborn Group, Inc. or any supplier has been advised of the 
possibility of such damages.

8.2.3.  Limitation of Liability and Remedies

Notwithstanding any damages that you might incur for any reason whatsoever 
(including, without limitation, all damages referenced above and all direct or general 
damages), in no event shall the liability of Dearborn Group, Inc. and any of its 
suppliers exceed the price paid for the device. The user assumes the entire risk 
and liability from the use of this device.

8.2.4.  Right to Revise or Update without Notice

Dearborn Group, Inc. reserves the right to revise or update its products, software 
and/or any or all documentation without obligation to notify any individual or entity.

8.2.5.  Governance

The user agrees to be governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, USA, and consents 
to the jurisdiction of the state court of Michigan in all disputes arising out of or 
relating to the use of this device.
